چکیده

Six strains were isolated from Lake Akşehir (Konya-Turkey) and identified as Rhodopseudomonas palustris on the basis of physiological and morphological characteristics. The strains grew phototrophically on a variety of aromatic compounds (under illuminated anaerobic conditions), namely, benzoate, hippurate, benzyl alcohol, 2-amino benzoic acid, phloroglucinol, phenylacetic acid, catechol, pyridine and pyrazoline. Biodegradation of 2-amino benzoate, phloroglucinol, catechol, pyridine and pyrazolin by Rhodopseudomonas palustris strains have not been reported in the literature.

The CouPSTU and TarPQM Transporters in Rhodopseudomonas palustris: Redundant, Promiscuous Uptake Systems for Lignin-Derived Aromatic Substrates

The biodegradation of lignin, one of the most abundant carbon compounds on Earth, has important biotechnological applications in the derivation of useful products from lignocellulosic wastes. The purple photosynthetic bacterium Rhodopseudomonas palustris is able to grow photoheterotrophically under anaerobic conditions on a range of phenylpropeneoid lignin monomers, including coumarate, ferulat...

Essential Genome of the Metabolically Versatile Alphaproteobacterium Rhodopseudomonas palustris.

UNLABELLED Rhodopseudomonas palustris is an alphaproteobacterium that has served as a model organism for studies of photophosphorylation, regulation of nitrogen fixation, production of hydrogen as a biofuel, and anaerobic degradation of aromatic compounds. This bacterium is able to transition between anaerobic photoautotrophic growth, anaerobic photoheterotrophic growth, and aerobic heterotroph...

Phenotype Fingerprinting Suggests the Involvement of Single-Genotype Consortia in Degradation of Aromatic Compounds by Rhodopseudomonas palustris

Anaerobic degradation of complex organic compounds by microorganisms is crucial for development of innovative biotechnologies for bioethanol production and for efficient degradation of environmental pollutants. In natural environments, the degradation is usually accomplished by syntrophic consortia comprised of different bacterial species. This strategy allows consortium organisms to reduce eff...

Chronic exposure of the oligochaete Lumbriculus variegatus to polycyclic aromatic compounds (PACs): bioavailability and effects on reproduction.

This study aimed to monitor PAC availability to the oligochaete Lumbriculus variegatus during 28 days of exposure to spiked sediments, in order to obtain reliable chronic effect concentrations for reproduction. Sediment toxicity tests were performed using three pairs of PAC isomers: two homocyclic compounds (anthracene and phenanthrene), two azaarenes (acridine and phenanthridine), and the two ...
